As part of our project, we need to identify all the flora and fauna species present in the quarry and in the vicinity. If in February we have channeled our studies on mammals and birds, this time we have studied all the groups. During one week in may (07-14.05.2018), we have conducted different transects for the inventory of flora, nesting birds, herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles), mammals and invertebrates (Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, Arachnida, Heteroptera, etc.). We investigate the herpetofauna habitats that we have found on the transects. The inventory of terrestrial invertebrates was made using the Barber Pit method. The night species of butterflies were detected using UV light. The micromammals fauna was determined by studies on the raptors pellets. Tha large mammals fauna was investigated using camera traps located in hotspots trails in the quarry and nearby. All the studies were made in the quarry and in the natural protected areas in the vicinity of the quarry in order to create as correct as possible the list of key species. Abiotic factors from the investigated habitats were also registered (temperature, humidity, due point). We now work in the laboratory with the micromammals and invertebrates samples. Stay tuned to find out next…The Key Species List.
